Member Biography

Hon. Shawn Andry Edward is a Saint Lucian politician who represents Dennery North constituency in the House of Assembly for the Saint Lucia Labour Party. He is currently serving as Minister for Education, Sustainable Development, Innovation, Science, Technology and Vocational Training.

Early life and education

Mr. Edward holds a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems and Management and is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Educational Studies.

Career

He was a teacher with 17 years of primary and secondary experience, having taught at the Aux Lyon Combined School for eight years and the Dennery Secondary School for the last six years; where he served as the Dean of Discipline, Head of the Information Technology and Business Department, Head of the Academic Committee, Cricket Coach and Education Management Information System (EMIS) Co-ordinator.

He is a former National Opening Batsman, representing Saint Lucia and the Windward Islands at the Under 19 level, and Saint Lucia at the senior level. Shawn’s seriousness has also won him leadership positions at the national and regional levels, and he has served as Secretary of the National Cricket Association as well as Manager of the Saint Lucia and Windward Islands Under – 19 Cricket Teams. Shawn has also served on the General Council of the National Youth Council (NYC) and the Saint Lucia Football Association (SLFA).

Edward has been the Parliamentary Representative for Dennery North for the Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) since 2011. He was Minister for Youth Development and Sports in the 2011-2016 Kenny Anthony Administration.
