Biography

Honorable Alfred P. Prospere represents Dennery South constituency in the House of Assembly for the Saint Lucia Labour Party. He is currently serving as Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security, and Rural Development.

Early life and education

Honorable Alfred graduated from the Dennery Secondary School in 1980. He later went on to gain academic qualifications in Forestry and Agriculture. Alfred obtained a Diploma in Agriculture (1984-1986) from St. Lucia College of Agriculture, a Certificate in Forest Ranger Training Programme (1990-1991) from the Eastern Caribbean Institute of Agriculture and Forestry in Trinidad and Tobago, a Diploma in General Forestry (1993-1995) from Eastern Caribbean Institute of Agriculture and Forestry, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Forestry (2003-2005) from the University of Guyana.

Career

Prospere’s career in Forestry has been with the Ministry of Agriculture which he joined in 1986, where he rose to the positions of Assistant Chief Forestry Officer, Deputy Chief Forestry Officer ( 2015) and Chief Forestry Officer (2019). He also served as the Focal point for St. Lucia, for the United Nations Conventions to Combat Desertification (2015 -2020).
